Introduction to sound for Calculus and Precalculus students

I have written up some notes on sound that you may find helpful.  The programs that create the graphs and sounds are found below.

Matlab program files

General

 instructions  contains very simple Matlab instructions
 

Sound

sound.zip contains all the Matlab programs and sound files for the notes mentioned above

 notes.m  sets up and plays single tones, a scale, and two chords
 showscale.m  plays a 0.8 second scale and graphs speaker position versus time
 spoken.m  loads and plays spoken sounds.  You will also need to download the following files, and save them with these names:
 a.spoken.out
 e.spoken.out
 o.spoken.out
 oo.spoken.out
 spectra.m  displays the spectra of some notes, chords, and spoken sounds
 compose.m  lets you define a spectrum and hear the corresponding sound
 clean.m  removes selected frequency components to clean up the sound
