Jeffrey SAMPONG, BGSU
³Logistic models for codon frequencies²
ABSTRACT: The talk is based on an article which uses a regressive
logistic model to analyze codon frequencies, using several explanatory
variables such as number of mutations needed to turn the codon into
a terminator codon, number of mutations needed to code for a
chemically different amino acid, and typicality of the amino acid coded
for by the codon.
3:30 PM Calculus Seminar 459 MSc
Ray HEITGER and Mary KOSHAR, BGSU
"Notions of Infinity"
ABSTRACT: It can be argued that the reason the
transition from pre-calculus to calculus is so difficult
for students is the notion of infinity. We will look at
the Mathematics Teacher article to start discussion
(if you would like a copy and did not get one in your
mailbox, see Mary Koshar).

Dr. Ben SCHMIDT, University of Chicago
³Blocking Light in Riemannian Manifolds²
ABSTRACT: To what extent does the collision of light in a
manifold determine the underlying geometry? I'll discuss
several conjectures and supporting results that aim to
characterize symmetric spaces in terms of the collisions
between light rays.
