FAQ Regarding Exams

Question: What happens if I can't make it to the exam on Thurday night from 7:30 - 9:00 P.M.?
Answer: NO MAKE-UP EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN so it is extremely important you take the exam on the assigned night. See the syllabus for details.

Question: Do I have to attend class every Thursday night?
Answer: You only have to attend class on Thursday night when there is an exam. The exam nights are listed in the syllabus.

Question: What do I need to do if I am registered with Disability Services?
Answer: Disability Services will give you a paper to give to your instructor. Arrangements will be made for you to take the exam at a different time if you chose to do so. It is a good idea for you to talk to your instructor about a week before the exam to remind him/her whether or not you wish to take the exam in the Disability Services office. Some students choose to take the exam with the rest of the class but we encourage you to take the exam in the Disability Services office if you feel it will help you give us an accurate assessment of your knowledge and ability.

Question: If I finish the test early, can I leave?
Answer: Yes, you can leave after you turn in the exam to your instructor. Do NOT give your exam to anyone else.

Question: What do I do if I forget my calculator or my batteries die during the exam?
Answer: If your instructor has an extra calculator you can ask your instructor to borrow it. Otherwise, you will have to take the exam without a calculator. You can NOT share a calculator with your neighbor during the test. Many of the calculators will give you a warning when the batteries are getting low. If you get this warning you should change your batteries before the test. If you get this warning in the middle of the test you should have enough batteries left to finish the test. It is a good idea to change your batteries at the beginning of each semester (or at least have a spare set handy).

Question: If I forget how to do something during an exam can I ask the instructor for help?
Answer: No, the purpose of an exam is to see how much you know (not how much the instructor knows). The time for explanations is before the exam starts. The instructor will not be able to give you hints, suggestions or tell you if you're on the "right track" or not. However, if you do not understand what a problem is asking the instructor can reword the problem for you (without hints).

Question: Will the instructor be able to help me if I have trouble with my calculator during the exam?
Answer: Yes and no. If you ask the instructor a common question or have a problem that the instructor discussed in class and explained what to do to correct it then, no, the instructor will not help you with that problem. If you have an uncommon question or have a problems that was not addressed in class then the instructor will help you.
